The songwriter and producer of alternative rock music, Winter Darks has released her latest official single, “557.” It has been proudly published as an independent release without the involvement of the corporate music industry on the Spaceship Radio record label. Emotive, evocative, and entirely heartfelt, “557” showcases Winter Darks in what may be her most intriguing sonic display to date.
Asked to mention some main artistic influences, Portland, OR's Winter Darks talks about music which connects to its audience in a profoundly personal way.
“I love the raw emotion of Julien Baker,” Darks writes. “Sometimes I try to make my friends listen to her and they're 'not ready.' You need to look inward to listen to her songs, and I admire that so much”
Winter Darks also cites as inspirations mewithoutYou, Camp Cope, and Apex Manor, as well as more vintage acts such as Sponge, Stone Temple Pilots, Smashing Pumpkins and Our Lady Peace.
Much like her name, there's a cynical undercurrent to music by Winter Darks. Her songs pilot a course through darkness to light, however. Asked to describe the overall theme of her new “557” single, she writes:
“It doesn't matter what you do, you will always find more no's than yes's. So you need to remember how much you've been through, where you've been, what you enjoyed and every little thing you've accomplished. That whole memory creates your next decision.”
The journey, not the destination? Partly. But it's also about acknowledging the victory inherent in the artist's work, itself.
“It's forever evolving,” Winter Darks says. “If you acknowledge only that, you're doing just fine”
Spaceship Radio describes Winter Darks as loving her dog, Leroy, a long-haired mini dachshund who goes (almost!) everywhere with her, as well as peanut butter, the gymnasium, and a cool, cool 1970 Ford Maverick she has named Mavvy.
“557” is the second of three official singles to be released by Winter Darks leading up to her second album release.

Long Bio 2018
Winter Darks is a modern alternative rock artist from Portland, Oregon. Her unique brand of “gloomily optimistic” songs blend alternative, indie rock, grunge rock, and classical guitar phrasing for a tone yearning and impetuous, mellow and direct, glowing and burning.
Her debut LP album, “Any Place All the Time,” appeared on the Spaceship Radio record label in June 2018 and has been steadily growing Winter Darks' fan base since.“Sometimes my songs are gritty bangers,” Darks says, “and sometimes they're fluid and melodic. They always take a dive into personal realization.”
Fans of early indie, pre-millennium emo and alternative rock styles will find much to love in the music of Winter Darks.
Darks writes music about confidence, being oneself, and encouraging creativity. She also sings about “getting back on track after rough times” and “doing what you feel is right for you – not what others think you should.”
Foremost, however, Winter Darks works with the evocative nature of sound.
“I've always loved the way music creates a chemical reaction inside,” she writes. “Not just familiar songs that can be added to a playlist to go along with a mood or vibe, but a song you're hearing for the first time can instantly get your full attention. It doesn't matter what genre or how old or new the song is – if it makes you feel something, that's awesome.”
Winter Darks collaborated with a number of musicians before settling on her current setup as a solo artist. Asked to describe her start as an artist, she writes, “Isolation + trauma + desperation.” However, she also reveals that creativity in music comes naturally to her: “I started writing melodies and ideas the day I picked up a guitar.”
Winter Darks writes, records and performs in the American Northwest. Her “Any Place All the Time” full-length record is available from over 600 quality digital music stores online worldwide now.
